Hey friends!
This Sunday’s post is a little different. In face, I’d call it more of an announcement. This week, I decided to start an Instagram account to share my art on!
This is honestly something I’ve been thinking of starting for a while now, but I finally took the leap and decided to just do it. So, here’s to hoping it all goes well! I don’t really know what to expect out of this account, but it’s nice being able to share my work and has honestly been good motivation to practice more often.
For those of you who don’t already know, I was always ~artistically inclined~ when I was younger, but stopped practicing drawing (or any art, really) when I got to university. I didn’t really have the time anymore, and after a few years I was really out of practice. However, not having time is something that (obviously) changed in a big way last year — so I finally decided to pick up drawing again. I had a couple friends in high school who used similar alcohol-based markers to draw in high school, and while it wasn’t something I had ever used myself, I decided to give it a shot. I really never used to do any coloured drawings in the past, really — I always used graphite pencils and stuck to greyscale, so it was definitely a huge learning curve. However, after about 9 months of practicing I’m really proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m finally ready to share. Plus, I’m sure with more practice I’ll only continue to improve from here!
For those of you interested in checking my account out, you can find it over at @mered.ith_jpg! I’m not super set on the username yet, and I really have no idea how to go about a posting schedule, captions, outreach — but I’m sure I’ll figure it out as I go along. If anyone has any username suggestions or tips and tricks for using Instagram to share art, please drop a comment and tell me all about it! I’d love any advice any of you have to offer. (As well, if you have any requests, drop a comment or shoot me a DM — I’ll be taking requests based on what I have time for/would be able to and enjoy drawing, so no guarantees — but I’d be happy to give almost anything a shot!).
Bye for now, stay tuned for next week when I (should be, depending on Canada Post) sharing a post all about my fave clothes styles this spring! It’s gotten crazy hot here in Vancouver in the last week — it already basically feels like summer — so hopefully all my new spring clothes won’t be arriving too late for me to get any use out of them. Not like I’m complaining — I was so over winter, honestly. The sun and warm weather have really been reviving me lately, it’s been like an energy shot to my system and is helping re-motivate me towards my goals.
Much love,
Meredith
